ACSI Spelling Bee

Wooster Christian School participated in the ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) Mansfield Area District Spelling Bee held at Kingsway Christian School on Saturday, January 26, 2008.  A total of 95 students (grades 1-8) from seven Christian schools took part in the event which acknowledges first, second, third and fourth place finishes at each grade level.  The following Wooster Christian spellers excelled in their respective grades: 

 

Grade 1:  Joel Talampas (First Place), Jacob Mullen (Third Place)

                 

Grade 3:  Zacary Harley (Second Place), Jacob McConnell (Third Place)

                

Grade 4:  Josiah Talampas (Second Place)

Grade 5:  Tirzah Talampas (First Place), Alexis Webber (Third Place)

                

Grade 6:  John Goff (Second Place)

Grade 7:  Caitlin Curtis (First Place)

Grade 8:  Ben Benekos ( First Place)

 

Because of their excellent performance in the final spelling competition for

grades 5 – 8  on that day,  Ben Benekos (First  Place) and Caitlin Curtis (Second Place) qualified for participation in the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee to be held at Grove City Christian School in Grove City, Ohio, on Friday, April 4, 2008.

 

 

Update:  2008 ACSI Regional Spelling Bee Results

 

Ben Benekos and Caitlin Curtis traveled to Grove City Christian School on Friday, April 4, 2008, to participate in the ACSI  Regional Spelling Bee.  Thirty-nine students from four different states in grades 5 – 8 rose to the spelling challenges at this higher level of competition. Ten rounds of spelling were held to arrive at the following final placements for the day: Caitlin Curtis ranked twenty-third and Ben Benkos ranked thirteenth.   “Peregrinate” and “soliloquy” were the words that decided these rankings for Curtis and Benekos, respectively.  They both receive certificates and medals for their accomplishments.
