Wooster Christian School hosted the ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) Middle School Leadership Conference on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Ten Christian schools from northeast Ohio sent a total of 85 students and 25 adults to participate in an all-day event centered on the theme: I Lead ’08. The students selected to attend from Wooster Christian were Ciera Chaffee and Caitlin Curtis.
The speaker for the day was Pastor Cornell Jordan, a veteran in youth ministry for nearly 17 years from Cleveland, Ohio. In four general lecture sessions, Jordan challenged students to look at what the Bible says about leadership in Matthew 20: 20-28 and to understand the character of a leader through the Biblical figures of Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Nehemiah, and King David. He stressed that ultimately leadership is all about helping others reach a common goal. In one team building activity, students examined case studies to learn how leadership can resolve problems. To conclude, Jordan quoted John C. Maxwell: “Leadership is knowing the way, showing the way, and going the way. It is the ability to influence.”
Lunch was provided so all students could enjoy the social interaction with middle schoolers from other schools. They also participated in structured and unstructured break-out groups and skits to personally experience facets of leadership. The Wooster Christian chapel band, under the direction of Mr. Randy Claes, led two praise and worship times during the day.
The ACSI Ohio River Valley Region sponsored four middle school leadership conferences for the 2007-2008 school year. Wooster Christian School was pleased to be one of the schools selected to host this event which strives to enhance and support school curriculums.
