National Day of Prayer

Wayne County Public Library

May 1, 2008

More than 100 members of the local community gathered at noon on Thursday, May 1, 2008, outside the Wayne County Library to pray for our nation as the National Day of Prayer was observed.

Re-enactor Pete Raymond portrayed Abraham Lincoln and delivered Lincoln’s official Proclamation of Prayer dating back to the Civil War era.   To honor Mr. Lincoln, third grade students from Wooster Christian School sang “The Song of the United States Presidents, saluting all American presidents before and after the sixteenth president.

Sweet Spirit, a women’s quartet, sang a patriotic medley and an uplifting call to prayer.

Scripture passages were read by Wooster Christian Middle School students. Community leaders then led prayers for seven centers of power in our society: government, military, media, business, education, church and the family.

Balloons attached with personal prayers written by home-schooled students were released at the conclusion of this observance.
