Right to Read Week

For WCS students, the week of January 22-26 was no ordinary week.  Students got to visit places like Narnia, Sherwood Forest, Treasure Island, Camelot and Wonderland during Right to Read Week, the theme of which was "Where Will Reading Take You?"  The fun was amplified by the fact that Spirit Week was also celebrated, giving students the chance to dress in themes throughout the week.  From Crazy Sock Day to Wacky Wednesday, to class "Color Wars" on Friday (and everything in between), the students had fun expressing their individuality and sense of whimsy each day of the week.  Reading was encouraged throughout the school, giving students the ability to earn prizes and incentives for completing books or chapters.  Our librarian, Mrs. Carpenter, decorated all the doors with beautiful handmade signs that depicted different literary destinations, like Blackbird Pond, Lilliput, and The Chocolate Factory.  We truly hope our students realize and appreciate the fact that reading can take them to many wonderful places!
