Frequently Asked Questions

Does our family have to attend or be members of Wooster Grace Brethren Church to enroll at Wooster Christian School?

No.  Although WCS is a ministry of Grace Brethren Church and we are located on the GBC campus, students from many churches attend our school each year.  In fact, over 40 churches were represented in our student body in 2008-09.  We are a non-denominational school.

Are you a state chartered school?  Are your teachers certified?

Yes - our school is chartered by the State of Ohio, and our teachers are all certified.  We also place a great deal of emphasis on continuing education for our teachers.

What grade levels are offered at Wooster Christian?

We offer enrollment for 3-year-old pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  For information on pre-kindergarten age requirements, please visit our Pre-Kindergarten page.

Does WCS use curriculum from Christian publishers?

We use a combination of Christian and secular textbooks.  Extensive research has gone into the process of selecting curriculum that meets our specific criteria in the various subjects.  In science, for example, we knew we needed an inquiry-based program that utilized the scientific method and taught creationism, among many other criteria, so we selected curriculum from a Christian publisher.  In mathematics, we needed a highly challenging program that met all the NCTM standards, and our best choice came from a secular publisher.  More information on each subject's curriculum can be found in the Academics portion of our website.

Are students required to wear uniforms?

While neat and modest attire is required of our students, Wooster Christian School does not have a uniform.

What extracurricular activities are offered at WCS?

As part of our core curriculum for all students K-8, WCS offers a comprehensive technology program, an art education that instructs in the areas of technique, theory, criticism, and history, and an exclusive Cognitive Enhancing Music Education in which students can learn to read music and play the piano in elementary school and can participate in band and choir in middle schoolPhysical Education in our spacious gymnasium lets students move and play while helping them understand the importance of caring for their bodies.  Students interested in worshiping through guitar, bass, or drums can participate in our middle school chapel band.  Interscholastic athletics are offered, including soccer, basketball, and volleyball.  Some of our various after-school activities include math club, art club, and drama.  Participation in numerous ACSI competitions, like the Math Olympics, spelling bee, and Music Festival, are also available.

Does WCS offer before- and after-school child care?

Yes.  Parents can choose to utilize our Kids' Time program, which offers a fun and safe environment for their children before and after school hours.  Information on fees and available times can be found on our Kids' Time page.

Is tuition assistance available?

Wooster Christian School does offer a limited amount of need-based financial aid to our families.  Application can be made by contacting the school or through the FACTS website.  See our Tuition and Financial Aid page for more information.

We also recently introduced a Loyalty Program through which, beginning the 2009-2010 school year, students may qualify to receive free or discounted tuition in eighth grade based on the number of consecutive years previously enrolled.

Families can also participate in a program called T.R.I.P., which allows them to accumulate tuition credit through qualifying gift card purchases.
